The Regional Economic Educator & Leadership (REEL) Awards honors outstanding teachers across Florida that deliver personal finance and economic education in their classrooms each day. In partnership with four of our affiliate Centers for Economic and Financial Education – the University of South Florida in Tampa Bay, Florida State College at Jacksonville, Florida Atlantic University and Miami Dade College – REEL takes a closer look, at a local level, at a teacher’s achievements, leadership, and commitment to economic and financial education.  These factors will determine the nominations, and after careful review, our REEL teachers.

  • "Receiving the Economic Educator of the Year Award is both a tremendous honor and a reminder of why I became a teacher.

Economics gives students the tools to understand the world around them, make informed decisions, and recognize their ability to shape their own futures.
I strive to create real-world learning experiences that make economics meaningful and relevant. If there is one lesson I hope students take away, it is that life is a series of choices. By understanding tradeoffs and opportunity costs, they can make decisions that positively impact themselves, their families, and their communities. It is a privilege to help students develop these skills and a true honor to receive this recognition."

    – Emily Raska, 2026 Charlie Harper Winner

  • "I use these programs almost daily in my classroom, and it was such an honor to be recognized for a resource that has become such an important part of how I teach.

When I introduce students to my Personal Finance class, the Budget Game and Stock Market Game are always highlights because they get students excited about learning.
What I love most is watching students make real-world connections. Through the Budget Game, they have meaningful conversations about credit scores, budgeting, and financial decisions. Through the Stock Market Game, I have seen students gain confidence in themselves in ways they never expected. One student who won a prize didn't even believe it at first, but that experience changed how they viewed their own potential.
These programs make financial education accessible, engaging, and meaningful for all students. They help level the playing field and ensure every student has the opportunity to build skills that will benefit them for a lifetime."
    - Julie Branch, 2026 Program Advisor of the Year

  • "At this time, I just wanted to take some time to thank you and FCEE organization for all the hosting, financial literacy teaching and learning, for all the available resources including networking.

In addition, thank you for the delicious food and drinks along with the singing and dancing of Mr. Pig E. Bank.  Everything was so lovely! Thank you for all the goodies and the raffles. I truly appreciated being recognized for my time and efforts towards building confidence and knowledge in the financial literacy and economic programs as a teacher.”

How are the REEL Teachers picked?

  • Unlike previous awards ceremonies, most of the REEL Teachers will be chosen by their local Centers

  • Each Center will determine eligibility within their region – this varies from region to region

  • Criteria could include workshop attendance, FCEE program participation, school or district leadership, awards and recognition

  • No projects will be required or accepted for this year’s programs

What are the REEL Awards?

  • The REEL Awards program will be individually hosted at each of the three participating Centers for Economic and Financial Education in partnership with local sponsors, the Federal Reserve, and the FCEE

  • REEL Awards will include cash prizes and a celebratory meal for winners and their guests

  • Each Ceremony will honor educators from K-5, Middle School and High School

How do I know if I am a REEL Teacher?

  • Each Center and/or the FCEE will be reaching out to individuals with invitations to attend if they are a finalist

  • Events are invite only, but all winners can expect to bring a plus one

What if my local Center isn’t participating/I don’t have a Center/ I wasn’t chosen by my Center this year… am I excluded?

  • Not necessarily! Two of our BIGGEST awards are open to ALL teachers statewide! We will still be looking for our  Charles C. Harper Economic Educator of the Year and our  FCEE Program Advisor of the Year recognizing their outstanding participation and proven success utilizing the various programs the FCEE provides. See details below.
